What is Communion and why do we do it every Sunday?

Communion (Holy Eucharist or Eucharist) is the principal act of worship for Christians, a sacrament to bring us into fellowship and participation with Christ through the symbols of the bread and wine, His Body and Blood. Holy Communion is "The Lord's Supper", a recreation of the Last Supper, when Christ charged his disciples to "remember me"; and it is a reenactment of those times when the Risen Jesus ate and drank with his disciples and sent them out to proclaim his word. In communion we are given a foretaste of the heavenly banquet, the fulfillment of all things in justice and in peace. We believe that Communion is "food for the journey," that strengthens us to live lives of justice and peace and love in our world here and now.
