Thanks. Sorry. Help. Wow!
I've often said that the heart of Christian prayer can be boiled down to these four words. We dress them up by calling them Thanksgiving, Confession, Supplication, and Praise; and we can add all sorts of extra words and biblical quotations and liturgical formulas and musical tunes to them, and we do. But basically prayer to God in the name of Jesus through the Holy Spirit comes down to "Thanks. Sorry. Help. Wow!"
What does it mean to pray to God in these four modes? What are the biblical bases for these kinds of prayer? How does our Prayer Book give us resources to pray in these ways? How do we experience these prayers in our daily lives?
Our Lenten series this year, held in conjunction with Emmanuel Church, will explore these questions. We will meet on Wednesday evenings for a simple soup supper at 6:30pm, and the program will begin at 7:00pm. Sessions will be held at Trinity and Emmanuel on alternate weeks, beginning with Trinity on Wednesday, February 24.
Plan now to attend these sessions, and learn more about what it means to pray, "Thanks. Sorry. Help. Wow!"
