May God’s grace be upon this shawl…warming, comforting, enfolding and embracing. May this mantle be a safe haven…a sacred place of security and well being to sustain and embrace in good times as well as difficult ones. May you be cradled in hope, kept in joy, graced with peace and wrapped in love. Blessed Be!
Shawls, made for centuries, are universal, embracing and symbolic of an inclusive unconditionally loving God. Shawls wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify. Compassion and the love of knitting or crocheting are combined into a prayerful ministry and spiritual practice, which reaches out to those in need of comfort or in celebration and joy.
The recipients of the shawls may be someone you know or a stranger. It may be someone who is ill or going through a difficult time. The shawl may be given to a new mother, a newly baptized child or a graduating senior who is off to college. The needs are as varied and different as the many yarn choices and patterns incorporated into the shawls.
The group crafting these comforting gifts meets weekly on Thursday at 1:00 pm in the Foster Room in the Parish house. All are welcome. Those who can't knit will be taught. Please bring your knitting or crocheting supplies.
