This prayer by St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622) was sent to my husband, P. James “Jim” Mueller and me by Karen Geary, wife of associate rector Bruce Geary in September 1997. Jim had just been diagnosed with leukemia which took his life in February 2000. The prayer brough great consolation and faith that we were not alone in our journey. We read it daily.
After Jim’s death, I created this cross stitch of the prayer. Trinity’s grief support group adopted the prayer in 2001 as the opening prayer for each meeting and it has continued to be used in many support groups since then. I pray it will continue to uplift those experiencing difficult times in their lives.
I am honored to donate this piece in memory of Jim to Trinity Episcopal Church where it hangs in the Foster Room.
