Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, and Lent at Trinity

The season of Lent is upon us and Trinity Staunton offers many ways for individuals, families, and people of all ages to join together in joyful fellowship, thoughtful reflection, and meaningful worship during this time.

This page gives an overview of our Lenten Programming. You can also subscribe to our Thursday e-mail list to get news and updates as well as a download of that week’s Sunday service bulletins.

You can begin by downloading our Lenten Guide-At-A-Glance brochure (print two-sided on 8.5″ x 11″ paper).

Sunday services continue with Rite I and Holy Eucharist at 8am and Rite II and Holy Eucharist with Organ and Choir at 10:15am.

Lent 2022

Shrove Tuesday

This festive, fun, and tasty event includes a brief presentation on our Youth Honduras Mission Trip. Any pay-what-you-will donations will go toward that trip.

Parents can also pick up a special Lent book that night — Lent and Easter: An Activities Book for Families with Children Ages 3 -10 by Pattie Ames. This book is available while supplies last. It’s also available as a PDF download. Please come and be part of the merriment and get yourself some pancakes!

Lent Kick-Off & Peep Show

The Youth Children’s Ministry (YCM) hosts a Peeps Bible Diorama Contest and Lent Kick-Off on Sunday, March 6, at 9:15am in McCracken Hall. How to enter? Just form a team, choose a Bible story, and build the scene using marshmallow Peeps and miniature props in a shoebox. See Muffie Newell’s work-in-progress to the left. Need ideas? Google or visit Peeps Bible Diorama. For tips and tricks for making a Peeps diorama of tiny Biblical proportions download our Peeps Diorama Guide. All ages are welcome for this fun event! Special Lent Programming

Adult Formation (Middle School Youth-Adults)
Sundays 9:15-10am
Feb. 27-May 8 (no session on Palm Sunday or Easter)

Using videos, reading, and discussion, we’ll explore The Way of Love: Practices for a Jesus-Centered Life. Drawn from the Episcopal Church’s intentional commitment to a set of Christ-centric practices, we’ll delve into following Jesus through these seven anchoring ideas: Turn, Learn, Pray, Worship, Bless, Go, Rest.

Women of Faith (WOF)
Wednesdays 11am–NOON

Beginning March 9, and running for five weeks of Lent, we’ll meet in person again in the Foster Room of the Parish House while also using Trinity’s outdoor labyrinth. WOF will experience Lent through the Bible and meditative walking practices around the book A Labyrinth Year: Walking the Seasons of the Church. All women and their friends are welcome. No preparation required and you don’t need to buy the book.

Children’s Formation

Children’s Formation returns to in-person meetings beginning Sunday, March 13, from 9:15-10am. Kids meet on the lower level of the Parish House:
  • Godly Play (PreK – 1st grade).
  • Growing in the Gospel (2nd-5th grade).
  • Nursery available 9am-NOON.

Tuesdays at Trinity are back beginning the week after Shrove Tuesday and our Pancake Dinner (see above).

Join us starting March 8 for dinner and fellowship at 6pm. Each week at 6:30 we’ll watch part of the Pixar movie Inside Outand then share a discussion.

Inside Out follows Riley as she experiences a range of emotions through changes and stress. The movie helps normalize a range of emotions that children and adults (the inner child) may experience when life is difficult. For all ages. Come for any/all session(s).

Parent Breathing Room is open during Tuesdays at Trinity.
